[workshops for theatrical world-building on a budget]

Is your group or class interested in expanding your skills for telling stories on stage? Do you want to develop your confidence in performance and creation of new pieces?

Bad Hats Theatre offers fun-filled, hands-on theatrical workshops for people of all ages and experience levels. Our workshops are led by core company members who offer insight from their experiences developing new works of all kinds. Our workshops are active, engaging and accessible to all those with a keen interest in creation, adaptation, and dynamic physical storytelling.

BAD HATS THEATRE GIVES STUDENTS THE TOOLS TO CREATE THEIR OWN PRODUCTIONS. THEY TEACH STUDENTS TO BELIEVE THEY ARE WORTHY OF TAKING CREATIVE RISKS AND CREATING THEIR OWN WORK. BAD HATS LIVES AND BREATHES COLLABORATION. THIS MADE A HUGE IMPACT ON MY STUDENTS.
— Alison McElwain, Drama Teacher, Lakefield College School

In our workshops we explore

  • Building the world of a play with minimal resources

  • Story structure analysis and reinvention

  • Collective creation, devising and working as an ensemble

  • Using movement, music, and text to advance narrative

  • Approaches for adaptation, and starting from scratch

Our themes and emphasis vary from workshop to workshop, depending on the needs or requests of the group. We’re excited to shape a workshop that best suits your educational objectives. Let us know what your focus is!
