New Bad Ideas Submissions

Have an exciting idea for a TYA show that needs development and that you think could be a Bad Hats project?
You should apply to our NEW BAD IDEAS development stream!

Combining our distinct, imaginative, and multidisciplinary storytelling style with Theatre Direct’s core tenet to commission and develop theatre for young people that empowers, educates and inspires, Bad Hats’ new program takes the voices of emerging creators and guide them from concept to workshop production.

This program was made to expand and include artists new to Bad Hats, drawing on the company’s leaders as a creative resource. Each year, we will provide an artist with financial and administrative resources, giving them dedicated writing time and two weeks of development with Bad Hats’ core team, culminating in an invited presentation for the city’s artistic leaders in YA programming, as well as a public workshop presentation.

Send your ideas, questions, or thoughts to
submissions@badhatstheatre.com

We accept submissions year round, and the program usually runs from April - August each year.

Bad Hats Theatre is committed to inclusive casting practices and reflecting the diversity of our community on stage. We encourage submissions from artists of all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, disciplines, and genders. We encourage submissions from next generation artists. Bad Hats is committed to providing support to differently abled artists. If you require support of any kind, let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs. Bad Hats thanks all applicants for their submissions, however, only those selected for an audition will be contacted.
